History BEAM Application
BEAM for Beekeepers
Beelease Foundation wanted to develop a measurement and registration system for beekeepers. The goal was to create a handy, affordable and optimally functioning box with various measurement values, including temperature, relative humidity and weight. The measurement data are integrally linked to a digital hive chart. A working prototype of the mini measuring system in hives was conceived in 2016. The construction and software is open source and has been outsourced to a professional partner. Crowdfunding was used to partially finance the purchase and construction costs. A number of copies of the measuring system have been brought into production.
In 2019 Beelease, with the deployment of IT technicians, all on a voluntary basis, developed a hive registration system as a webApp. Subsequently, the construction of a cheap, fast and economical measurement and transmission system started. In 2020, the latest version BEAM 2.0, with LoraWAN and wifi for data transport, was tested and made available. We call it: BEAM.
The use of this reliable system provides daily measurement data from various hives. Overviews per hour, day, week, month and year are available via graphs. Summaries and cross-sections of the data are available per hive or groups of hives in apiaries or for students via presentation on PC and smartphone.
BEAM is for rent for a one-off amount per year of € 60,-. That is € 5,- per month including the BEAM Node (the measuring box). The notice period is 1 month. You pay in advance and no deposit. Register HERE
BEAM Node
With the hive you can install a BEAM node. This node measures every 30 minutes the status of the broodnest using 3 temperature sensors, of which the middle (M) is in the nest and the left (L) and right (R) are just outside. The temperature in the broodnest will continuously indicate 34 to 35 degrees Celsius. Independent of the outside temperature. The L and R electrode will indicate a lower temperature. As soon as the L and / or R also indicate 34 degrees, you know that the broodnest is enlarged. Don't you have a node yet? Request it at Request BEAM Node.- User: Not logged in Login
